Minister for Water Supply and sanitation, Mani Chandra Thapa has said only a fresh election will resolve the present crisis in the nation.
He defended the government’s move of dissolving the House of Representatives as an effort to take the country towards stability and that holding a new election on the stipulated timeline was the government’s foundation point.
Speaking in a programme organised by Reporters Club here today, he said reinstatement of the dissolved House of Representatives in the present context means the nation moving back. He added that the government has taken the political comments, analysis and critiques over the House dissolution move as natural.
Minister Thapa argued that to go for election is compulsion for the government in the present situation.
He rebuffed at the allegation that he changed camp in the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) to become a minister. “I only accepted the Prime Minister’s proposal that an honest and dynamic person should join the Council of Ministers in the present hour of crisis, the post of minister is not a big thing for me,” he said.
Minister Thapa also argued that since the Prime Minister was the First Chair of the party, it will get the legitimacy from the election Commission.
He asserted that there was no possibility of the reinstatement of the House of Representatives as it was dissolved by a Prime Minister with majority support. Only election can bring peace and stability in the nation.
